Climate scientist Dr. Mika Tosca has teamed up with queer Filipino artist Havi Millar to bring awareness to these less charismatic species. They’ve coined the term “Charismatic Megaflora” to refer to large plant species that are also being impacted by environmental crisis. Havi has hand-drawn several of these species (the Western Joshua Tree, Bristlecone Pine, and Everglades Palm) in a way that makes them relatable, human-like, and most importantly: charismatic. We’ve printed his drawings on t-shirts to draw awareness to these often-overlooked species and remind people that climate change is a global problem, and every species is worth saving.

Unfortunately, the future of the iconic Joshua Tree, an unmistakable sight in the landscape of the high desert east of Los Angeles, is threatened by climate change-induced changes to temperature and precipitation patterns in the Mojave Desert.

They are among the oldest living species on earth. Yet, the future of the iconic Bristlecone Pine is threatened by climate change-induced changes to temperature and precipitation patterns in the intermountain American West.
