Happy Friday and Happy Solstice! At around 10pm tonight, the angle of Earth’s rotational axis relative to the solar plane will be maximized which means at that moment, the sun will appear directly overhead at the Tropic of Cancer. To us, this represents the “longest day of the year” and also the “start of summer”. And it will be just in time, because a MAJOR heat wave is brewing…

Today will actually be warm but mostly pleasant (once these morning clouds clear), with highs reaching the low 80s and, most importantly, dew points remaining low. But change is on the horizon…

The jet stream will buckle northward over the next day or so as, as it does so, the atmosphere will become moist and unsettled. A round of showers and strong thunderstorms is likely tomorrow as we transition to this hotter regime. Temps tomorrow will be in the 80s but mid-day storms will put a cap on how hot it gets. Those storms are expected anywhere from 8am and 3pm or so. Some could be heavy at times.

The real heat will arrive on Sunday as that massive heat dome traverses eastward and plants itself over the center of the country. Not only will it be HOT but it will be HUMID as well. Dangerously humid. Temps will catapult into the upper 90s on Sun, Mon, Tues, and remain above normal through the end of the month. Prepare accordingly!

Tl;dr - happy solstice!! Pleasant, 80F today. T-storms tomorrow, clearing by afternoon/evening. 85F. Dangerously HOT Sunday-Thursday next week.
