It continues to be quite muggy out there, with overcast skies mostly dominating your weather today. Away from the lake, high temps will reach into the upper 80s this afternoon, but within a mile or two of the lake, temps should stick to the 70s. While the threat of storms persists all day, the best chance of heavy rain (possibly severe?) will be this evening, between 5pm and midnight. Heavy rain training over the same geographical area could cause localized flooding problems.
The muggy, cloudy conditions will stick around through much of this week with the chance of storms persisting off-and-on each day. There is some discrepancy between the models on the long term trends as we head into the second half of summer, but part of that could be due to the MASSIVE El Nino that has emerged in the eastern Pacific. I mentioned it briefly a week or so ago, and I’ll have more details on it as we head into fall, but just know that the El Nino we are currently living through is likely to end up as the not just the strongest one on record, but possibly the strongest one to ever impact modern human civilization. It’s likely we haven’t seen an El Nino this strong since the Middle Ages, or possibly ever.
Tl;dr - muggy, 80s. Storms possible, especially this evening/tonight. Could be heavy. Similar vibes all week.
