A line of showers moved through this morning which has ushered in a muggy, warm air mass. Temps this afternoon will rise into the low 80s but, most importantly, dew points will follow. With dew points in the 60s it will feel *humid* for the first time this year.
For those of you who are new to the text in 2026, it’s time for my annual lesson on humidity: The tl;dr is: *relative humidity* is useless. You body does not care what the PERCENTAGE of humidity is. What’s important to your body is the *specific humidity*, which is measured using the dew point. A good brush-up on dew point is here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6V-5bqLvij/?img_index=1
.. but the long and short of it is: <60 the air generally feels dry, no matter the %humidity. A dew point of 60-65 is humid, 65-70 is muggy, 70-75 is oppressive, and 75+ is hell. 🙂
So today will be hot and humid. A round of strong thunderstorms is *possible* this evening and overnight tonight.
Tomorrow will be even hotter than today, with highs possibly reaching into the upper 80s and strong southerly winds making it feel like mid-July. The chance of thunderstorms continues tomorrow and into the start of next week. Monday and Tuesday will also be HOT.
Things cool slightly Weds and Thurs, but we should heat right back up for Memorial Day weekend :)
Tl;dr - HOT and muggy next 4 days. Thunderstorms possible each day otherwise partly cloudy. 80s.
