Muggy air remains in place over the upper Midwest as waves of showers and storms move through the state, mostly to our south. Storms are likely this afternoon, mostly across the southern half of the city and into northwestern Indiana. None of the storms seem particularly strong, so it will likely just be popcorn summer rain vibes. Temps will be in the 70s and 80s but with dewpoints in the upper 60s to low 70s, it will remain muggyyyy.
The “threat” of rain lingers through the week but that could mean not a single drop falls on you. The showers will be widely scattered and short lived. One of them may grow large enough to count as a storm but we’ll see.
The sun should return Saturday, but more unsettled weather is likely next week. Temps will remain muggy through the weekend.
One thing I do want to talk about is the MEGA El Nino that has blown up in the Pacific Ocean. Ocean temperatures in the NIno 3.4 region (the eastern Pacific, off the coast of South America) are indicating the onset of perhaps the strongest El Nino in 500 to 1,000 (!!!) years. We’ll have to see how it plays out, but, if it comes to fruition, the last time El Nino was close to this strong was in 1877 when 4% of the global population perished due to heat waves, famine, and pestilence.
In other words - we could be in for an absolutely WILD winter (maybe our warmest ever on record but also probably our driest, an unusual combo for winter).
Tl;dr - muggy air remains. Showers possible through Fri. Sunny Sat, more muggy + showery weather next week.
