This about-face turn into winter has been jarring to say the least, but don’t fret: autumn is coming roaring back this week.

You can thank good ole’ Lake Michigan for that dump of snow yesterday. As bitterly cold air pouring out of the Canadian arctic raced across the unfrozen (and quite warm) lake it condensed and then fell as snow (because the air was cold). Officially, the city recorded 1.7” of snow (which happened to be a record for the date) at O’Hare, but totals in the city were much higher due to their proximity to the lake.

A much lighter batch of lake effect snow is producing some flurries today, but those should end shortly.

And then the breeze shifts from the north to the south and that means warmer weather is not far behind. The sun will emerge this afternoon as temps get pushed up to around 40F.

The sun will hang around through the end of the week with temperatures climbing a little higher each day… 50F on Weds, 55F on Thurs, and 60F by Friday. Temps will remain mild through the weekend, but a storm system is committed to ruining that warmth by Sunday.

Tl;dr - still chilly, but sun returning, 40F this PM. 50F tomorrow, 60 by Friday. Rain returns Sunday.
